Mr. Mark Baron

Mark Baron is currently the acting Executive Director of the Bureau of Intelligence and Research at the U.S. Department of State. A career Foreign Service Officer, Mark has served overseas in a variety of positions in Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Iraq, Japan, Canada, and Senegal, in addition to assignments at State Department headquarters. Prior to joining the Foreign Service in 2000, Mark worked as a civilian Intelligence Research Specialist for the Department of Defense, following service on active duty as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Navy. Mark holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science From Cal Poly University, and received a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
