Study abroad Program: Spring 2023

National Security is more than analysis and collection. The IC is looking for well-rounded, globally experienced students from all academic and cultural backgrounds.

As a Center of Academic Excellence designated by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Intelligence and Information Operations program was awarded with a five-year IC CAE grant to provide professional development and career opportunities to the students in the Intelligence Community.

Study Abroad is a 15-week course that features language immersion and weekly social sciences instruction covering the political, economic, social, historical, and other civil-military aspects of a foreign country. It is offered in Spring semester at CAST and provides students the opportunity to travel abroad during Spring Break. Students participate virtually most of the program, and a part of the group can travel abroad for two weeks for the onsite portion of the course.

In 2023, they will be learning about Brazil and will have the opportunity to travel to São Paulo State, Brazil. The program will be offered under the course INTV 496 Special Topics. Language immersion (Portuguese) will be offered weekly, and fluency is NOT required. All classes will be taught in English, except the lessons offered in language instruction. The Portuguese language instruction lessons are designed to support student learning of the cultural and political landscape of Brazil, and are focused on everyday use of Portuguese, not focused on technical grammar.

The trip is inclusive of (covered by the program):

• Flight tickets and transportation

• Local hotel stay

• 3-4 historical excursions in São Paulo State • Daily breakfast (at hotel) • International health insurance

• Allowable amount of per diem related to travel

Please note: Our partner in Brazil requires proof of vaccination. Requirements for travels are subject to change due COVID 19. The deadline for applications will be October 10th at 5pm AZ, please submit your application to Carla Buldrini at cbuldrini@arizona.edu.”
